EM has checked into … CitizenM, Taipei
This is my very first time experiencing a CitizenM hotel, but I have heard so much about it, especially a lot of the hype focuses on its colourful palette, technology and just something different about it compared to other boutique hotels.
So have I transformed into a CitizenM? Read on and I will tell you at the end! PS you might become one yourself too.
First impression: It is funky, straight forward and informative in a way that convinces you to choose to stay with them. A very clever design!
Their Facebook page is centralised with content from other CitizenM hotels, so that it aims to attract people to consider staying at the other CitizenM hotels around the world. Smart strategy but may lose its own individual hotel identity. I wish that there are more video content though.
And again, their Instagram page is centralised which is acceptable for the world of Instagram since people generally just browse through images and comment as compared to more interaction of questions and reviews in Facebook. I love it how their Instagram page is so insta-worthy!
Arrival
As you can see from the pictures above, the hotel is just soooo colourful, artsy and vibrant! Every corner can be insta-worthy, great for Instagram lovers or even if you like to take plenty of pictures for memories. As for myself, I was instantly blown away by the colours as well as the cool artefacts. Made me extra excited and happy! Great start for my Taipei holiday.
Check In
Besides being funky and extra colourful, CitizenM is also well known for its technology. The self-check in kiosk was really easy to use. Also, it was fun to check yourself in and scanning your own room key. If you are not confident, don’t worry! There are always at least two friendly staff members there to help you at all times, in fact they will ask you if you need any help or have a small talk with you. One small downfall however was that they do not accept cash as payment, which I wasn’t aware of. So make sure that either you prepay your accommodation or have your credit card ready for overseas transaction.
Surprise! The cutest and cuddliest human soft toy welcomed me. I can bring him home too! I had to buy a new hand carry bag just to bring him home (I just had to haha). Haven’t got him a name though…

Discovering what this magical iPad can do, it’s really incredible and spending some time with the cute and cuddly human toy.
Room
Comfy bed? Checked. Necessary toiletries and amenities? Yup. Clean? Definitely. BUT WAIT, this is no ordinary hotel that just offers the basics. Cause they are extra and we love extras :)
First the million dollar views, OMG for what you pay, the views are just breathtaking. Imagine falling asleep and waking up surrounded by the panoramic views.
Second the craziest in-room iPad master control, literally you control everything in the room from this iPad. Room temperature, lights, blinds, TV, streaming, map, alarm and also a cheeky mood option that changes the lights and background music to suit that particular mood (including Romantic mood which I found it hilarious).
Third say hello to your new buddy, the plushie placed in each room was a surprising touch and the best thing is that you can bring it home with you. A great way to remember your experience in this hotel!
Not just an ordinary shower, you can have a shower and a disco party by changing the lighting using the iPad.
Amenities with funny quotes that just brightened up my day.
Bathroom
You can have a disco dance while you shower, how about that?! The quotes on your bathroom amenities are also hilarious. Adding a bit of fun whenever you are ready to explore for the day or refresh to rest for the night. Also, the high power rain shower was just what I need after a day of adventure in Taipei.
Verdict
I had a terrific experience with CitizenM Taipei. The hotel is just so funky, modern, innovative and creative that totally brightens up my day and gets me excited to explore the city of Taipei.
The room is not big and extensive like other traditional boutique hotels but why need a big room or extensive amenities when you have a city to explore? CitizenM Taipei gives you all the basic necessities but with a twist and adding extra touch to it for an amazing and unforgettable experience.
The location of the hotel is top-notch, right beside Beimen MRT station and walking distance to Ximending.
Not to also forget about their incredible staff members/ambassadors, they are extremely friendly (ALL OF THEM, I should emphasise) and make you feel welcomed like you are at their home.
It is not your traditional luxury hotel, but you will leave with an overwhelming memory that money cannot buy.
So back to the the question at the start, have I transformed into a CitizenM? Without a question YES!
This is not a goodbye CitizenM, I will be back to stay at your other properties that’s for sure, so stay tuned and wait for me!
