EM has checked into … Altitude @ Banyan Tree, Kuala Lumpur

My husband and I went to Kuala Lumpur for a short vacation during the Christmas week and decided to treat ourselves with a fancy afternoon tea, especially if it involves stunning views!

Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur has just opened up in July 2018 and it has remarkable views of the city specifically the iconic KL Tower and KLCC. But before we head to our staycation in one of their luxurious hotel room, afternoon tea was the first stop.

Christmas Afternoon Tea Set 2018 at MYR 98 per person (excluding tax and service charge)

Please note that the menu listed here were their Christmas theme set hence will not be valid any other time. However I am certain that their signatures such as the spice tuiles, crisp, flavoured cappuccino etc will remain.

Left to right: Smoked Christmas turkey breast sandwich with cranberry sauce, smoked eel with horseradish mousse and truffle mushroom macaroon.

Welcome snacks in the tall white glass - Spice tuiles, orange coral crisp and Christmas duck bon-bon.

Christmas Bell served in a clear round glass - Boston lobster panna cotta, avruga caviar and lemon gel.

Christmas Wish Come True - Foie gras grissini, pumpkin cappuccino, maple syrup flavour milk foam and cinnamon dust —-> My absolute favourite! It was sooooo delicious!!!

The sweets are served in a modern and fancy stand, like a grand masterpiece of artwork.

Classic plain and cranberry scones served with clotted cream and homemade fruit jam.

Spiced Christmas walnut

Christmas Tree - Vanilla cupcake with fresh raspberry and chestnut butter cream.

Christmas Ball (in purple) - Strawberry mousse, 55% chocolate jelly and 55% chocolate crumble.

Buche de Noel - Sea salt chocolate sable and 71% chocolate mousse.

Christmas Egg Nog (in yellow) - Egg nog’s cream, Tahitian vanilla mousse and coconut streusel.

Christmas mince pie macaron - Fruit mince meat and almond shell.

Verdict

Is it the best afternoon tea in Kuala Lumpur? Honestly speaking no, although the pumpkin cappuccino was so good that I might reconsider. If I had to review all of their dishes, overall I wish that they would provide a bigger portion of savoury items to balance with the sweet items. And again, this is just our personal preference, who knows perhaps the local market here love sweets. If we just look at their sweet selections, they were mostly mousse based and I think they can improve by offering different variation of textures instead of just having mousse with different flavours. It got a bit too much after awhile.

Is it the best afternoon tea with a view in Kuala Lumpur? YES! I think this is definitely the place to bring your girlfriends or even family to enjoy a great afternoon with a stunning backdrop. Certainly insta-worthy! Also, strongly recommend this place for a 5-star date if you are looking to impress your other half ;)

Is it worth it? Yes I would say so. For a reasonable price of MYR 98 per person, I would gladly pay for the presentation of the afternoon tea along with impressive views. Top-notch!
