Gorgeous George, Cape Town
EM has checked into … Gorgeous George, Cape Town
Oh hello gorgeous! I already feel gorgeous before staying at this beautiful hotel after my 22 days overland/camping trip from Zimbabwe to Namibia, hence treating myself to a gorgeous retreat.
Gorgeous George is the first hotel to be added into the iconic and famous Design Hotels collection. Therefore, the design elements need to be perfect and outstanding which I can definitely agree that Gorgeous George has done a fantastic job!
It was a very new hotel in Cape Town when I stayed in July 2019, so I thought why not experience the hotel and also indulging into my very first encounter with a hotel from the Design Hotels collection.
How was my experience and what was my conclusion? Let’s go!
Arrival
Formerly a run-down mall, it was absolutely amazing to see a 360 degree transformation to a trendy, chic and boutique hotel. It’s located right in the centre of downtown Cape Town, which is extremely convenient.
Check in process was really quick and since my room was not ready, my luggage was stored and I was invited to chill at their Gigi rooftop restaurant/bar while waiting for my room. A refreshing welcome drink was truly satisfying and much appreciated! Maybe if you don’t like orange, tell them so that they can provide another alternative.
Oh and the most impressive about the reception was the incredible tile artwork in the background. It reminded me of Portugal especially my time in Porto with the emphasis of blue tiles.
I was truly excited and ready for my staycation!
Room
For my stay, I have booked the most basic room category which is the ‘Studio’ room, since I exchanged through my American Express points.
For the most basic room category, I was already impressed. The first thing that got to me when I walked in was that the room was SUPER SPACIOUS. You can even do cartwheels in the room. With space, I was instantly refreshed. Way better than staying in a small room with hardly anything to breathe (literally!).
Next was its beautiful and GORGEOUS design. It has a strong industrial trend yet toning it down with chic and contemporary elements. It felt like an understated luxury, fancy but not crazy rich type of fancy. It’s the classy fancy.
Oh and the bed, it was heaven! Not forgetting that there was a pillow menu which I can customise my pillows if I want to. Definitely had a great night sleep for sure!
Bathroom
For the room that I stayed at, the bathroom was situated close to the room entrance and it is separated from the room with a door, so it is very private which maybe a bonus for some people. It doesn’t matter to me whether if it is separated or ‘openly-spaced’ to the room.
As expected, the bathroom is tastefully designed to bring a refreshing statement to guests. I absolutely love the extra touch of placing a pop of colour with its statement flower.
The bathroom and shower amenities were amazing too, they felt luxurious and I felt very much pampered.
Verdict
Overall, I had an extremely relaxing stay with Gorgeous George. It is gorgeously beautiful and chic, with fantastic service and amenities.
It is unique on its own and definitely deserves its reputation to be part of the Design Hotels collection.
Not to also forget that it is centrally located in downtown Cape Town which is extremely convenient for travellers.
I am absolutely inspired and refreshed all thanks to Gorgeous George!
Insta-worthy and a huge thumbs up!
So if you are planning to travel to Cape Town, treat yourself with a stay at Gorgeous George, it is definitely worthwhile especially after a long flight and best of all, you can take so many pictures for your Instagram! #stayforthegram #doitforthegram
