Hi Everyone

Welcome to EM checked in...

This is where I document my experiences in hotels, occasionally restaurants and travel adventures. Hope you will find it enjoyable and inspirational!

DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne - Flinders Street

DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne - Flinders Street

EM has checked into ... DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne - Flinders Street

Taking over from the former hotel Citigate Melbourne, DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne has given the facade a slick makeover, highlighting its neighbouring locations such as Flinders Street Station and the iconic quirky laneways. From the entrance to the lobby, the hotel gives off a very industrial vibe yet there is something quite mysterious about it. Maybe it is the darker deco that makes you feel like you are in a hippy train station. But when you enter the rooms, it has completely transformed to an extreme freshness and instantly refreshes you to get ready for bed.

The hotel is definitely convenient with Flinders Street Station right at its doorstep and you can easily access to major attractions through walking distance. But if walking is a no for you, fear not, you have multiple tram stops to choose from that can get you anywhere in the CBD.

Since I have experienced a couple of DoubleTree by Hilton hotels in Asia, I was curious to see how this one compares. Overall, I truly did enjoyed my stay here with many thumbs ups. Whether if it is worth it, read further to find out.

Confirmation email

First off, I am obsessed with their confirmation email design as it is definitely catchy and engaging. Too many hotels are still outdated with their technology and extremely happy with how Hilton as a brand decides to move forward in 2018 to be more technological-savvy. So far, this design is top of the game in the hotel industry.

Overall, well-rounded content and visually engaging. Definitely can see the effort in terms of content planning and sourcing relevant images.

And again, great to see that there are regular posts. However it will be better to include more of a personality to engage with users instead of a simple offer or promotion messaging. Or perhaps also consider including more of article content. Facebook users would be more inclined to engage when the post has a human element to it. Imagine what would you yourself post on your Facebook page to your friends.

Online check in

How cool is this?! You can do an online check in and select your room through an interactive map. Hilton has really stepped up by following something similar like how we do online check in for flights. This is unexpectedly mind-blown and huge bonus points from me as a millennial traveller.

Since I have checked in online, I just need to collect my room key cards. *Note: Other Hilton properties mostly in United States have already developed a room key card technology whereby you can use the app from your phone as the key card, perfect for someone who is in a rush or doesn't like waiting in lines.

Room

I have stayed in the standard king room so this will be perfect for anyone who just need the basic essentials. The room gives off a 'wow' factor with white bed sheets, white walls and white tiled bathroom. There wasn't any wrinkle on the bed so it gives a slight luxurious touch and definitely drawing anyone to hop on the bed and snooze. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the signature DoubleTree by Hilton cookie which anyone will receive upon arrival. Definitely enlightened my mood while munching on the cookie in the room.

One of the softest hotel bathrobes I've ever experienced...these are DIVINE!!! Highly recommended and a must try!!!

For the price of the room, the existence of Crabtree & Evelyn amenities are definitely a huge bonus and surprise. I was actually expecting basic bathroom amenities.

Verdict

Overall, I think DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne - Flinders Street is definitely worth the value and in fact more than I was expecting! From the hotel ambience to the tiny details in the room, everything was superb and making it easy for guests to relax and rest well. The technology invested by the parent chain Hilton should be well recognised and I have to say a very smart strategy to attract upcoming generations.

One thing to note is that this hotel might not be a place for someone who is seeking for a luxury-style rejuvenation (which is not what the hotel aims to be anyway) but it is highly recommended for leisure and business travellers who just want a comfortable place to stay at the end of the day. In addition to its excellent location and value, DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne - Flinders Street is definitely a must for your next trip in Melbourne CBD.

Till next time, take care and stay inspired.

xoxo EM
